MITCHELL S35R MARK II 2 PERF.

    (Techniscope) 35mm REFLEX

    FILM CAMERA

This is the classic 2 perf (Techniscope) Hollywood film camera totally re-fursbished and updated with state of the art electronics. Still the best camera for effects work because it has 2 pin-registered action (resulting in very little film weave - a steady image so very suited to visual effects layers and post-production matting) and it can be motion controlled, so it is a favourite amongst animators and specialist film makers.
This 2 perf version is pulls down 2 perforations worth of 35mm film stock rather than the usual 4 perf, so creating a half-height frame using half the film stock and costing half the lab fees of normal 35mm. This makes a huge cost benefit when shooting 35mm for eventual broadcast on 16:9 television: when using the normal 35mm 4:3 aspect ratio frame, a huge amount of the frame is wasted when cropped to suit 16:9 broadcast, but with a 2 perf camera there is little waste.
Of course, the usual cost saving measure is to shoot S16mm film for 16:9 broadcast - but with a 2 perf 35mm camera there is 30% more negative area compared to S16mm, thus giving a big boost to quality. The cost savings also make it particularly suitable for high quality, high speed effects work, where the film bill can be high due to the high frame rate and multiple takes.
This camera type was used to film such classics as The Good, The Bad and The Ugly and Rubblefish.

    • Unique Pirate designed video door incorporating a video assist (a very high quality Sony 999 chip camera, giving super-clear video output) and a bright orientatable eyepiece.
    • QuickSync 1 Intervalometer Controller available too - allows exposures from 1/8 to 22 seconds, intervals from 1 second to 99 minutes with a capping shutter output too.
    • 2 x 400' magazines as standard (others available).

    LYNX ROBOTICS C-50 CAMERA MOTOR

The Lynx Robotics C-50 series controller is a high speed, all crystal, motion control compatible camera motor. Camera speeds are set to .001 frame/sec with a six position digi-switch, so that any possible video or HMI speed is available. Standard maximum speed settings are 128fps forward and 32fps reverse. An inset slide switch selects reverse camera operation, whilst a second slide switch selects enables the motion control inputs and a three position, momentary toggle switch, lets the operator creep the camera's phasing forward or reverse for shooting video monitors. Three LED's show motion control enabled, reverse direction status and home position. The system readout is a 32 character, backlit LCD module, displaying footage used, film buckle etc.
    £270.00 Day / £810.00 Week

LYNX ROBOTICS QUICKSYNC 1 INTERVALVOMETER CONTROLLER

When connected to our Lynx C-50 motor, this intervalometer allows exposures from 1/8 to 22 seconds, intervals from 1 second to 99 minutes with a capping shutter output too. It is microprocessor based and incorporates additional features, including remote run and single frame operation for Lynx C-50 motors. Switch settings are provided for camera clock inputs of 50, 200, 250, 500, 512, 1024 and 3200 pulses per frame. It will also detect and use a 'centre of shutter closed' sync mark if it is available.

    • INTERVAL MODE: Settings are provided for exposure (1/8 to 22 seconds), interval (1 to 99, seconds or minutes) and burst (1 to 16 frames). For 3/4 second and longer exposures, a stop-open/stop-closed scheme is used to prevent shutter-edge exposure ridging. A toggle switch is provided for continuous operation and a push button switch for single cycle operation. LED indicators show system status.
    • CONTINUOUS MODE: Provides continuous and single frame operation at the set exposure. The 'in op' LED flashes warning if a sync pulse is detected at an incorrect place in the operation. A forward/reverse switch is provided for cameras which recognise a direction line input - for example, our Lynx C-50 motor.
    • REMOTE MODE: Provides a remove run and a single frame switch for remote operation of cameras at the speeds or exposures set by their own controls.
    £200.00 Day / £600.00 Week

    SWING & SHIFT LENS

A C-mount APO 4/45 MC swing & shift lens. Originally designed to correct perspective distortion in architectural shots, we have used this lens to create an unusual look in motion control work. The lens can be adjusted such that the plane of focus is not parallel to the film image plane, resulting in a line of focus, rather than a plane of focus. Or put it another way, it makes things look weird.
    £50.00 Day / £150.00 Week
Optex Excellence Periscope Probe Boroscope - aka 'Abekus'
    £630.00 Day

The main parts are: the periscope module which can be used at 90 degrees or extended straight in probe fashion; the main relay consisting of 0.8 Modulus gears for flawless integration with existing film accessories and Motion Control Rigs; and finally the Format Module for film or HD. The system includes four super-compact dedicated lenses offering 120°(10mm), 100°(14mm), 78°(20mm) and 60°(28mm) angles of view.
The entire system is color matched so whether it is used as a periscope or probe, and whichever lens is used, color remains constant. Hence, one can mix HD and film and retain the same depth-of-field at comparable apertures.
The system gives such high image quality you will think you are using a prime lens and as periscopes go, the Excellence is relatively fast having a minimum T stop of 5.6. There are no focus marks on the barrel, one eye focuses the lens, which is simple enough as the image is incredibly sharp.

As Phil Savoie of the BBC Natural History Unit says -
"The Optex scope is different from other periscopes and boroscope and an interesting one indeed.
Tony Scott the optical engineer who designed it spent five years to get it right, where as most scopes are hybrids from many bits the Optex Excellence is purpose built. It has its own lenses that are smaller than normal primes and very good optically; a 10, 14, 20, 28. They have no iris for stopping down; this is done with the body of the scope. The stop is also a function of the format; 2.8 for Super16, 5.6 for 35 & HD. Wide open it can render 150 line pairs on axis and 80ish edge to edge - the same sort of performance one would expect from primes. One stop in the edges are noticeable better, after that diffraction quickly takes over and the image starts to fall off. It was designed for shooting wide open or a stop in.
The feedback on the Excellence has been all very positive. More that one DP has mentioned it will cut with primes. The 90 degree prism may come in handy for your shoot to keep shadows out of frame."

    ANGENIEUX 12-120 REFLEXED LENS

This Photosonics Actionmaster 200 is the smallest high-speed standard 16mm camera, the baby-brother of the Actionmaster 500, weighing only 1.5lb. Although this camera is not reflexed, it is usually used with our Angenieux reflexed lens (C-mount). The camera is extremely compact, making it a favourite amongst skydivers and underwater action cinematographers. The camera comes with either a 'pistol grip' or 'shoulder pad-pistol grip' combination giving on/off camera control. Speed is accurately controlled by a digital phase-locked servo system, ranging from 24 to 200 fps. Built to a high standard with rubberised components, it is suitable for use in harsh environments, such as vehicle crash tests and missile testing! Film magazines (100' & 200') are easily swapped a within a few seconds. Like its big brother, the Actionmaster 500, the image is remarkably steady: there are two pulldown arms and two pins slide into film perforations holding the film steady, while a rotating shutter opens. That is, the mechanism is a pin registered movement, (aka 'intermittent film movement').

    LYNX ROBOTICS C-50 CAMERA MOTOR

    £270.00 Day / £810.00 Week
The system readout is a 32 character, backlit LCD module, displayiing footage used, film buckle etc.

LYNX ROBOTICS QUICKSYNC 1 INTERVALVOMETER CONTROLLER

    £200.00 Day / £600.00 Week
When connected to our Lynx C-50 motor, this intervalometer allows exposures from 1/8 to 22 seconds, intervals from 1 second to 99 minutes with a capping shutter output too. It is microprocessor based and incorporates additional features, including remote run and single frame operation for Lynx C-50 motors. Switch settings are provided for camera clock inputs of 50, 200, 250, 500, 512, 1024 and 3200 puilses per frame.

A toggle switch is provided for contnuous operation and a push buton switch for single cycel operation.

    SWING & SHIFT LENS

    £50.00 Day / £150.00 Week
A C-mount APO 4/45 MC swing & shift lens. Originally designed to correct perspective distortion in architectural shots, we have used this lens to create an unusual look in motion control work. The lens can be adjusted such that the plane of focus is not parallel to the film image plane, resulting in a line of focus, rather than a plane of fucus. Or put it another way, it makes things look weird.
